The Free Esperanto lessons provided in an Adelaide experiment targeting youngish adults are suspended while my recent appeal to the Universal House of Justice is processed.       

Binding Instructions composed in the name of the national Baha’i administration in Sydney on the 4th of Nov. 2021 have rendered my start-up’s business model financially unviable: “You are also requested to remove the word Bahá’í from your Bahá’í and Esperanto Education Services”. Expensive street signage, name cards, promotional materials, office stationery and magnetic signs for on-road use are all ergo unusable. To appeal to the supreme governing body of the global Baha’i community, the Universal House of Justice, that it overturn guidance from an equally democratic national Baha’i institution is the last recourse open to individual believers. Shortly before posting my appeal to Haifa, I emphasized in an unanswered letter to Sydney that its instructions of November 4^th are based on their untrue complaint about me that I criticize Baha’i institutions in public. Not even in private do I criticize Baha’i institutions for the simple reason that all official documents in which Esperanto is referenced (as above) always refer to it in a positive light. 

Criticizing is not ruled out in the Baha’i Faith provided it’s constructive. My criticisms are exclusively directed at influential Baha’i individuals in academe, admin and the media for their own sake and for the sake of young people who look up to them. It’s because I love Baha’is in our blessed institutions that I criticize their inaction vis-a-vis the principle of a universal auxiliary language (auxlang) and not because I seek to harm their reputations. 😊

The final page of this composition depicts a uniquely Baha’i administrative and executive distinction in which the 9 elected members of our institutions, including the 4 office bearers, only become an authoritative religious body when they dispense guidance collectively. Put another way, Baha’is who serve in our institutions hold no more institutional authority as individuals than any other believer in the Baha’i community. Influence is another matter. Clearly then, to criticise any one of them re important matters is not to attack the institution

Because the builders maintain anonymity their intentions and the real significance of the monument remain a 42-year-old mystery. Rumours abound: The end is nigh! Are End-times upon us or a long-anticipated Age of Reason? Ted Turner, the UN and KKK are focussed on culling the population! The not-to-be-identified ‘RC’, the agent who coughed up the money, also provided blueprints from the Vatican, the Rosicrucians, the deep state, an embryonic world government, the new world order etc. etc. ad infinitum! Cascading catastrophes, cataclysms, calamities, and a collapse of the environment collectively constitute the four horsemen of the APOCALYPSE: conquest, war, pestilence and death!  

The Anthropocene and climate change can destroy what’s beautiful in nature and bring our entire civilisation to a drawn out (or abrupt) end. But the means of bringing on an end of the world per se, remains as elusive to belligerent politicos as also to consumers and vendors of fossil fuels and the geniuses of science in weapons manufacturing, whose work for military and industrial complexes * of powerful nations make empires real. A granite slab standing in the center, with four arranged around it, form a kind of X. The five slabs together with a capstone, all astronomically aligned, total in height almost six meters. Save for the odd typo, the monument lacks nothing in quality and weighs in at more than a hundred tons. A set of 10 guidelines or principles are inscribed on the Guidestones in 8 modern languages, one language for each face of the four large upright stones. The capstone features four ancient writing systems.   

              The ten teachings carved into the granite monument:

1.   Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.

2.   Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.                               [‘Fitness’ criticised for perceived connotations re eugenics.]

3.    Unite humanity with a living new language.                                                  [Proponents of planned languages, e.g., Esperanto, offended by implied exclusivism]

4.   Rule passion—faith—tradition—and all things with tempered reason.

5.   Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.

6.   Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.

7.   Avoid petty laws and useless officials. [Inherently subjective attitude re bureaucracy.]

8.   Balance personal rights with social duties.

9.   Prize truth—beauty—love—seeking harmony with the infinite.

10. Be not a cancer on the Earth—Leave room for nature—Leave room for nature. [Emphasizing of nature at point 1 and reiterating it twice at 10 raises concerns.]

Along with some information about a buried time capsule various facts appear on it for identifying weight, languages, astronomical factors, etc. However, the date of interring, and when to unearth it, are missing, and so, its actual existence is questioned. No-one should be in the dark however as to the sponsors’ intentions, as explained by RC: "A small group of [anonymous] Americans [very wealthy] is aiming at the Age of Reason." The news media for oldies in America remains largely unengaged, perhaps due to the monument’s appeal in various pagan and occult circles, according to Wikipedia. In the first of the eight modern languages referenced, a strong southern accent (not unpleasing to my male antipodean ear) delivers an informative account in the diabolically sexist English language.

Some wealthy anonymous individuals – whose main concerns are, they said, a nuclear war between the Soviet Union and the United States along with a sudden ecological collapse – erected at the height of the Cold War a structure for informing humanity about their panacea. The root cause of an imminent global cataclysm, ensuing apocalypse and unimaginable social catastrophe, they attribute to a huge world-population which will (or must!) fall by 90%. And, ergo, conspiracy theories abound:

The eight languages in question for bruiting abroad the teachings of the new Decalogue are English, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Spanish, traditional Chinese, Russian, Swahili, and four for the capstone: Babylonian (cuneiform), classical Greek, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sanskrit. Why is the language of Voltaire eschewed? Americans and republicans mostly admire la belle France, right? La Fayette, the Statue of Liberty and gallant Gallic guys and gals galore. Is Charles de Gaulle among recent French presidents on the nose in the Anglosphere? Back in the day, his contemporary, Prime Minister Chou Enlai amusingly mused, it’s said, on the effects of the French Revolution in that "It's too early to tell."

Of more importance are certain references re the monument about a prophesied end of the world, as recorded in ancient holy texts, which to the modern English speaker can come across as lost in time and translation to a mystifying degree. Here then for your perusal, in a bilingual essay titled APOCALYPSE AND P-O-S-T APOCALYPSE in its penultimate paragraph, the Baha’i Prophet, Bahá’u’lláh (pronounced BaHoLa) provides new keys to the Book of Revelation, aka the Apocalypse.

In a sense nothing distinguishes the Baha’i Faith from any of the world religions in that loving one’s neighbor is the same as it ever was, i.e., the Golden Rule is a similar central tenet of them all! Certain fundamental principles are however newly revealed for modernity!

As to the pertinence of this excerpt, insofar as influential individuals in religion are concerned nowadays, I’d think the Almighty is the sole arbiter given the double deploying of the past tense. For thirty years, to little avail, on the rare occasions when Baha’i leaders and I have spoken in the same room on the principle of a universal auxlang, I criticized them as politely as I can. Because of passions arising in face-to-face conversations, and for its reach and longevity, I prefer to criticize in writing. 😊

My five successive English and Esperanto books on the language issue, critiqued and appreciated muchly in the Esperantists’ media, increasingly depict Anglophilia and Persophilia in the Baha’i community’s attitude to the language principle in general and to Dr. Zamenhof’s creation in particular. Let’s be crystal clear, as to the seriousness of what’s at stake, when Baha’i leaders eschew consultation, itself a fundamental principle of the Faith, in regard to another fundamental principle of our religion. Their documented and self-evident (de facto as distinct from official) breach of the Covenant is perchance unclear to them. All twelve of the fundamental principles are obligatory! To “observe every ordinance of Him Who is the Desire of the world” constitutes the crux of Bahá’u’lláh’s opening paragraph of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, “His Book of Laws and the Mother Book of the Bahá’í Dispensation.” In its penultimate paragraph, citing the language principle as “the greatest instrument for promoting harmony and civilization”, He sets forth guidance for the “members of Parliaments throughout the world”: “This will be the cause of unity, could ye but comprehend it…” 😊

As damning as future generations of Baha’is will find this depressing exposé and sad saga, you’ll notice dear reader, as always in my work, even in this bluntest of full-on criticism, that I scrupulously adhere to deploying a two-letter word as important as Kipling’s “IF”, and as exculpating as Bahá’u’lláh’s statement above insofar as the nescient are concerned – “OR”. “OR” serves as a face-saving conjunction amounting to a potential mitigation for influential Baha’is who are perhaps ignorant of their duties (i) to consult properly about “the very first service to the world of man” i.e., an international auxlang, (ii) to obey Haifa’s 1985 guidance that the principle per se “necessitates the most urgent attention”, (iii) to either follow instructions penned by Abdul Baha and Shoghi Effendi concerning Esperanto, or attempt to explain why they shun such wise advice and the sinner who exposes their egregious error. The ignorant attitude or the recalcitrance of such leaders of religion in the Baha’i Faith (in the Anglosphere!) is damaging, but for all I know, it ain’t necessarily sinful! Future scholars might know if one can be unwittingly in breach of the Covenant! Come what may, I obey institutional instructions from the House of Justice, for my dear deceased parents, like all Christians, taught their kids, that two wrongs can never make a right nor reverse injustice!
